I'm done

Shirt - River Island
Jeans - H! by Henry Holland at Debenhams

These are the new jeans I bought for back to school (I go back in just over a week and I'm really not feeling it) and I really do love them - the star print is so quirky yet subtle. I wore it with this plain shirt so that all the attention is on my legs.

Hannah is having a campout tonight and I am really looking forward to it because it's a chance to see everyone again. After Year 11 we all went on to different sixth forms and college courses so it's great when we get a chance to catch up with everyone, what makes it so lovely is that we can go weeks without speaking but everyone is keen to meet up and when we do it's as if we haven't spent any time apart, it's like we're all stood at the wall again in our blazers, I like that.

Scars

People say that your ex will always leave a scar on you, an emotional scar, that is. It doesn't matter how long you were together, how good the relationship or how messy the break up was, the time you spent with that person will have an effect on you.

It could be a habit, like how to make a great cup of tea, or maybe they introduced you to a band or TV show that you now love, maybe they affected your personality in some small way, like making you more confident, or perhaps they altered what you're like in your next relationship: clingy or distant.

Personally I find it amazing that being in a relationship with somebody can change you, but when you think about it it isn't all too surprising - for whatever length of time, that person was a central figure in your life, you probably spent lots of time together and spoke everyday, something of them is bound to rub off on you.

But then it's also quite flattering to think that you will have changed somebody (admittedly it could be for better or for worse) because of the role you had in their life. Even if you can't stand your ex now, isn't it rather incredible to think that they now love that band because of you? Or have the confidence to talk to the new kid at school? I think that's pretty special.

What's my scar? Well, I'm not sure that any of you will care, but if you do...
I think my ex made me slightly clingier than I like to admit to being. I need to be told that I am loved and I'm all too quick to think the worst. I only have one ex so I only have one scar (as of yet)

What do you think your scars are?

Come see me, bring flowers

Earrings - Swarovski
Cardigan - George at Asda
Shirt - Next
Shorts - Primark

Yes, another appearance from the notorious supermarket cardigan, maybe I shouldn't be writing a 'fashion blog' after all?

The shorts are made from a really soft denim and were an absolute bargain at £5 - in fact they were such a bargain that I actually have the same shorts in two other colours: purple and green. They go great over tights when it's a bit colder but are also good with bare legs through the summer.

As you may know I have been job hunting lately and have applied to pretty much anywhere that I can think of, I've handed out CVs in town and have email alerts set up for stores that are opening soon. This 0 hour job I have at the moment has given me a taste of what it is like to have some money to call my own and I do not want to go back to being reliant on my parents again. Don't get me wrong, my parents are great and buy me everything I need and most of the things I want, but I do like to be independent. I haven't heard back from anyone yet, but there is still time, fingers crossed.

Back to school shopping

August is quickly running out and before I know it I will be back at school again for the final time ever.

It's funny, even though I left school last year to start sixth form, I never really felt as though I left school because I'm still very much in a school environment: although I am no longer forced to wear a blazer, I am still surrounded by the lower school that do have to suffer such burdens, I still call all my teachers "Miss" and "Sir" and my day still begins at 9am and finishes at 3:30pm (however these days there is often a skive to the local shop slotted somewhere inbetween)

So the thought of going "back to school" for the final time is rather a daunting one, because this time next year I will be looking at all the "back to uni" ranges in shops, and in addition to folders and pens and new clothes, I will be looking at bedding, irons and kettles. It's all a very exciting prospect, and seeing at the Year 13's go off to university this year has only made me want it more, there is just the small matter of my A2 exams before I get there.

One of the best things about going to a sixth form that doesn't require a uniform is that I no longer have to suffer the traditional "back to school shop" which used to entail me and my mum walking around Bhs trying to find some trousers that fit and five matching white shirts with a top button fastening. Instead, we get to walk around the clothes shops that I actually like, and buy a few basics so that I have a few new things to go back in.

The jeans are from H! by Henry Holland at Debenhams, the jumpers are from Red Herring at Debenhams and the T-shirt is from Next.

I only realised the distinct star-theme after I'd bought the clothes, I assure you that it was completely accidental. I love the subtle print on the jeans, and the jumpers are unbelievably soft and cuddly and so they should make the grim walks up to the bus stop on dark mornings bearable. The striped t-shirt isn't something I would usually go for but I really like the colour and think it will be a great layering piece in the autumn months coming up.

It's still August and I've already got the back to school blues, can't I have another month of summer?

Hire Me!

Dress - H! By Henry Holland at Debenhams
Cardigan - George at Asda

Yes, I buy my clothes from the supermarket - but they are cheap and this black boyfriend cardigan goes with absolutely everything so it truly was an absolute bargain!

The dress is from the H! by Henry Holland range at Debenhams which has to be my favourite clothing range at the moment - I now own three dresses from there and a pair of the most fabulous jeans that are covered in tiny velvet stars (they will feature in an outfit post soon, I promise)

I wore this outfit to go job hunting in today around my local town and I'm sure that most of you reading this will know just how depressing it is to not even be turned down, just simply not considered, for a job that you are perfectly capable of doing. I will do absolutely anything if it means getting a few set hours each week, but it really is not encouraging when all you get is "We aren't hiring at the moment, would you like to leave your CV?" I bet they never look at the damn thing anyway.

AABC

Polo shirt - £15 - Dropdead sale
Shorts - £28 - Topshop
Watch - £75 - Fossil

I am sure that anyone reading this in the UK is well aware that it was results day today for A Level students, which is a very worrying and stressful time! Today I collected my AS results and was very happy with my grades: an A in English and Psychology, B in Photography and C in Chemistry. I woke up at six this morning and was unable to get back to sleep because I was so worried - I dread to think what I'll be like next year when I'm waiting for the results that determine if I'm going to university or not.

Wednesday 14 August 2013

I was chatting to a male acquaintance the other night about the job in a bar that he recently managed to blag his way into (he is blessed, though others may think of it as cursed, with the so-called "gift of the gab") and he was saying that the typical bar man's "uniform" consists of stubble and a shirt with the sleeves rolled up. Since I am eighteen soon (far to soon for my liking) I asked him what he would consider a standard barmaid's uniform, and he said "I don't know really... tits out?"

This, whilst not particularly offensive and the typical "laddish" comment I would expect from him, got me to thinking about an issue which I find deeply unfair... a boy would never even have the option of lowering himself like that.

A boy simply does not have the option of wearing a short skirt or a low top (sometimes both) and this annoys me because it feels like at times girls are expected to wear things like that - fair enough if that is her choice and she is confident enough in her body to wear such things, but I for one am not, and I don't want to feel like I'm in the wrong for not wanting to flash my tits to the world.

Rant over.

Autumn is coming

Autumn is coming

Autumn - or Fall, I love that name - is my second favourite season, after Winter, just because it is so homely and warming, and is a relaxing period after the so-called 'excitement' of Summer (which I never seem to experience). I love the crisp, dewy mornings and the cheek-reddening winds, the piles of crunchy leaves and the hearty meals.
Plus, Autumn means going back to school with my friends, and I often see it as the start of a new year, rather than January 1st, as it is when everything recycles in my life, and has done for the past 13 years.

I'm actually quite excited to go back to school this time, and probably for the first time ever, as it will be a hard and busy year, that ends with the choice of going to University (which I still remain undecided on), doing a further course at a college, or going into the working world for real, whether that be in an apprenticeship or a full-time job. I just know that I'm going to have to make massive decisions and massive steps (and be MATURE), and I want to get started as soon as possible, as it's going to be so freaking scary!!
I'm sort of starting to feel old enough for all this; is this me growing up?

Anyway, what could enpower you to get cracking more than a lovely, cosy outfit to wear? I always think of Autumn colours as mustards and plums, as well as the obvious oranges, reds, yellows and browns, so this is my very obvious take on the style.
For me, no matter what 'trends' are in at this period, I always wear the same stuff, warm-coloured jumpers, jeans, and heavy shoes. It's just a no-fail solution to being cosy and rosy!

Anyway, thank you for reading, let us know what you are going to get up to in the Autumn months in a comment. We're going to see Bowling For Soup!!! How exciting.
